Happy New Year!  It’s 2009 and I’ll be eagerly awaiting 2009 Topps series 1.  For now, we’ll rip into a pack of 2003 Topps series 2 to tide us over:

  1. #559 Moises Alou
  2. #560 Gary Glover
  3. #517 B.J. Surhoff
  4. #484 Bud Smith
  5. #449 Jarrod Washburn
  6. #694 Greg Maddux (Gold Glove)
  7. #547 Roger Cedeno
  8. #513 Michael Young
  9. #658 Texas Rangers (Team Card)
  10. #681 Drew Henson/Brandon Claussen (Prospects) (Rookie)

Omen for the new year?  Pull of the day is a couple Yankees prospects.  The card is 5 years old.  Let’s see how they fared:

Drew Henson batted .248 in his 6-year minor league career.  He was called up to the Yankees in 2002 and 2003, batting only .111 in 9 at-bats.  In 2004, he gave up baseball and went to football, where he is currently a quarterback for the Detroit Lions.

Brandon Claussen was called up to the Yankees to start one game in 2003 and performed well.  He was later traded to the Reds where he pitched 2004-2006.  He signed a minor league deal with the Nationals in 2007.  He did not play in 2008, so I’ll have to assume he retired from professional baseball.  He has an awesome full name:  Brandon Allen Falker Claussen.
