Archives Project: 1989 Upper Deck

Written by Steve on July 19th, 2009

I managed to get my hands on some 1989 Upper Deck when it just came out.  Upper Deck made those overproduced ugly cardboard Topps cards at the time look like trash.  From 1989 until I effectively stopped collecting cards in 1992, I was buying more and more Upper Deck cards each year, while buying fewer and fewer Topps cards.

In the early 90′s, hologram technology was all the rage.  There were hologram arcade games (remember arcades in the mall?), action figures with holograms on them, hologram stickers, and then Upper Deck baseball cards.  These were cool cards for kids in the 90′s.  Here’s what I still have:

  1. #8 Cris Carpenter (Rookie) *x2
  2. #130 Orel Hershiser
  3. #205 Andre Dawson
  4. #349 Dave Winfield
  5. #366 Dwight Evans
  6. #661 Orel Hershiser (Cy Young Award)
  7. #665 Orel Hershiser (MVP)
  8. #667 Orel Hershiser (World Series MVP)
