The Curse of the Bambino, as retold by Topps:

“Babe, the first great home run hitter and an iconic figure whose fame has endured over the decades, arrived in the Majors as a pitcher, winning 65 games for the Red Sox in a three-year span starting in 1915.  His hitting spurred a transition to the outfield in ‘18.  After setting a Major League record with 29 homers in ‘19, he was sold to the Yankees.  In 15 seasons with New York, he won 10 home run titles and six RBI crowns while swatting .349 and playing in seven World Series.  Ruth, one of the Hall of Fame’s five original inductees in ‘36, still ranks second with 2,219 RBI and third with 714 homers.”

To honor Babe Ruth’s birthday, Topps wrote a long paragraph about him in tiny letters and ALL CAPS.  I’m not going to reproduce it here, lest I go blind.  Heck, I don’t even feel like reading it, lest I go blind.  So anyways, Happy 114th Birthday “Babe”!

Pack Break: 2009 Topps Series 2

Sunday, August 16th, 2009

2009 Topps series 2:

  1. #520 Adrian Gonzalez
  2. #563 Francisco Cordero
  3. #607 Jarrod Washburn
  4. #558 Edgar Renteria
  5. Legends of the Game Career Best #LGCB-BR Babe Ruth

I think this is my first Babe Ruth card ever, but for some reason I don’t really like it.  It’s kind of drab looking and the back just has a listing of stats.
