Pack Break: 2007 Topps Updates & Highlights

Friday, October 8th, 2010

After less than a year in the Minors, Tim broke in as a Giants force in 2007.  The ’06 first-rounder fanned 10 or more twice before the 2007 All-Star Game, including a 12-strikeout, no-walk shutout of Arizona on July 1.  He yielded just three hits in that win.  ”He’s not in awe of anything,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy says of the poised right-hander.

2007 Topps Updates & Highlights:

  1. #UH158 Tim Lincecum (Rookie Card)
  2. #UH79 Adam Wainwright
  3. #UH139 Casey Kotchman
  4. #UH66 Aaron Miles
  5. #UH26 Kameron Loe
  6. Red Back #UH247 Hideki Okajima (All-Star)
  7. Red Back #UH1 Tony Armas Jr.

  3. #3 Derrek Lee

  9. Topps Town #TTT20 Adam Jones
  10. #152 Nyjer Morgan

“There’s something special about that kid,” catcher Bengie Molina acknowledges when discussing Tim.  Among his special things: the lowest ERA (2.55) and most SOs (526) in the Majors the past two seasons.

That kid has one fewer “special thing” this season.  While he’s still the strikeout king with 199, his ERA is 3.69 ranking him at 25th place in the National League in that regard.

Pack Break: 2010 Topps Series 1

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

2010 Topps Series 1:

  1. #216 Mike Cameron
  2. #6 Chicago White Sox (Franchise History)
  3. #98 Cesar Ramos (Rookie)
  4. #145 Justin Upton
  5. Million Card Giveaway #TMC-9 Mike Schmidt
  6. Peak Performance #PP-2 Tim Lincecum
  7. Topps Town #TTT18 Vladimir Guerrero
  8. #271 Jermaine Dye
  9. #319 Ryan Franklin
  10. #200 Roy Halladay

By whiffing his 10th Dodgers batter on September 28, 2008, Lincecum unlocked the golden gate into Giants lore.  He surpassed Jason Schmidt’s ’04 tally of 261 to become the single-season strikeout king of the team’s San Francisco era.  Tim would fan three more that day to finish at 265, including a whopping 130 in 97 1/3 innings after the MLB All-Star Game.

4-0, 1.27 ERA, 11 SO/9… those are freakish pitching numbers for a freakish pitcher.

Then I used my Mike Schmidt Million Card Giveaway card to unlock…

Mike Schmidt!

This is 1987 Topps #597 Mike Schmidt (All-Star)
