KEY CARDS
There are some nifty cards to be had in the 1999 set.
From the base set, the key rookies are A.J. Burnett, Austin Kearns, Matt Holliday, Brad Lidge, and Pat Burrell. Other key cards from the base set include Roger Clemens, Nolan Ryan, Mark McGwire, Derek Jeter, Cal Ripken, and Barry Bonds.

1999 Topps cards, front and back
The subset cards look pretty exciting. Two cards to chase in the subsets are:
1) Topps Ryan Finest Refractor reprint of Nolan Ryan’s 1968 rookie card
2) Power Brokers Refractor Barry Bonds
THE BIG CARD
1999 Topps series 2 also includes an oversize card in every hobby box. I don’t really see the point, but I like how they’re trying different things. My hobby box came with #4 of 8 Mike Piazza:

What was the difference between the “finest” and the “finest refractors”?

I don’t have any refractors in my collection, but I think the difference is that finest use chrome technology (like a dull metallic look), while finest refractors “refract” rainbow colors in the light.

I always wondered what that meant as well. The finest and the finest refractors. Roger Clemens, I just wish he would just come clean and apologize instead of dragging this whole fiasco out into the street.
